Before you start
Windows 10 or 11, x64. First setup needs internet access to download a separate free FFmpeg engine, about 115 MB. Compression then works offline. No app account or separate .NET installation is needed.
Your first smaller video
- When the approved release becomes available, download and extract the complete ZIP.
- Open MakeItFit.exe. Select “Set up video engine” once.
- Drop in one SDR video, or browse to a local file.
- Enter a maximum size in MB. One MB is 1,000,000 bytes.
- Choose where to save the new MP4. Your original is not overwritten.
- Play the result in your usual video player before sharing it.
If the result looks softer
Compression is lossy. Try a larger target. Tight limits may reduce resolution or introduce blocky motion; fine detail and small text may soften. Keep the original for editing and archiving.
If the size target is refused
Some combinations of duration and target size cannot produce a useful result. Choose a larger target rather than retrying the same limit.
If you see a security warning
The current candidate is unsigned. Stop and contact the studio if Windows or your browser warns about a download. Do not disable your security protections.
What is retained?
The first video track and first audio track, if present. Subtitles, additional tracks, source metadata, and chapters are not retained. HDR input is unsupported.
Engine setup and privacy
Setup contacts Gyan’s GitHub release to obtain the separate free engine. Your video is not uploaded. A crash may leave temporary MakeItFit folders; contact support if cleanup is needed.
